Or in other words – learning German is just a starting point, it has benefits far beyond just knowing the language.
FROM HAMBURG AROUND THE WORLD TO BASEL
With a degree in Business Administration and Chinese language under my belt, I took off from home for what became a 10 years’ tour around the world, working at management level for large international as well as small local companies. With every move, I learned a new language and a new culture – via the USA, China, Sweden and Singapore to Basel, followed by several years in the French speaking part of Switzerland.
I now live with my Swiss family in Basel and the surrounding region. North-Western Switzerland, the neighboring Alsace/France and South Baden/Germany have become my adopted home over the last 15 years. I love the local culture and language and enjoy sharing my appreciation with newcomers.
Born and raised in Hamburg, I speak a neutral standard German. The 7 foreign languages I have learned have enriched my life abroad enormously. Especially knowing Chinese has opened many doors for me, not only in business but also on a personal level. It enabled me to establish contacts and gain insights into the local culture which otherwise would never have been possible.
